Trade and Class: Labour Strategies in a World of Strong Capital

Abstract


'N0"to the U.S. Free Trade Agreement; "Yes" to liberalized trade through GATT (the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs) - so runs much of the Canadian opposition to the recently hatched Canada-United States Trade Agreement. The suggestion is that "we" will do better (protect our culture, jobs, sovereignty, etc.) linked more closely on a multilateral basis to the (capitalist) world economy than grafted on to one particular dominant (and embattled) economy.
